Wedding Planning: Staged Exits

Growing up as little girls, I’m sure there are those moments you dream of.  Your wedding day is certainly one of those days.   How it will be as you take those first steps down the aisle…how it will be when you kiss your prince for the first time…how magical it will feel to walk hand in hand towards your friends and family.

Many couples give lots of thought to how they will exit their ceremony venue.  Thankfully there are many options offered by Disney as well as some home spun ideas for them to choose from.

Some of the classic staged exits we have loved over the years:

1. Bubbles:  Always a classic, brides and grooms come back to this staged exit option all the time.  The pictures are always filled with laughs, some funny moments when the bubbles blow into faces and really set an atmosphere of whimsy to the photographs.

There is always this concerns with brides that the bubbles leave a stain on the dress fabric……to this day we have yet to have a brides say there was a stain on her dress. Not to say it can’t happen but we hope that little fact puts some worried brides at ease.

2. Rose Petals: Romantic and charming, this is another classic staged exit that couple adore.  Petals often match the couple’s wedding colors or have several tones of the colors. These can be very custom and brides have rose petal cones made with their monogram for guests to hold.

3. Ribbons Wands: This is more of a modern trend but we love it.  These are great ways to making a unique exit with a splash of color and nothing getting thrown in your faces. 😉 Disney can make these for you or perhaps you can make these yourself to save in your budget.

4. Fireworks at the WP: for a real wow factor we have seen couples plan for a surprise fireworks exit at the wedding pavilion.  This really adds a sense of magic to the exiting of  the new couple.

5. Sparklers:  We have yet to see sparklers being used in a Disney Wedding ( and perhaps they won’t allow that) but we think this is a really great idea none the less.

6. Balloons! – One of the newest trends we have seen in the world of weddings is a staged balloons release.  Again, we have never seen this done at a Disney wedding or if it’s allowed, but we still think it’s pretty cool.  And how perfect if you are doing an UP! themes wedding?

Disney Wedding boutonnieres

Whether you’re having an elegant wedding or a something more casual, it’s always fun to throw in something that is fun or has special meaning.  A great way to do this is with boutonnieres.  Typically boutonnieres are flowers that coordinate with the other floral decor, but that’s not the only option.  You can incorporate your fiance’s favorite movie, sports team, hobby, etc. with small touches.

Since we are all Disney fans around here I’ve pulled some examples off of Pinterest that show hidden Mickeys, various characters, even Disney name tags!  Use these as inspiration to create something for your wedding that is unique to you two as a couple or just plain fun!

The Finer Details: The Card Box

Recently, one of your planning Disneyland Brides asked about card boxes on our forum.

This tiny detail can often be overlooked when planning a destination wedding.  Disney Weddings offers several options for brides and grooms to choose from.  Some brides get super creative and take the do-it-yourself route with these.  Others will rent or borrow one from Disney Fairytale Weddings Department.

Here are some fun card box ideas we love.

The traditional box can really be brought to life by a little color – Tiffany Blue anyone?

One of the latest trends is the birdcage as a card box.  These can be customized with your wedding colors and monogram.

How about an actual mailbox? We love this Disney themed mailbox giving a big nod to the movie UP. Adorable and easy to make.

Disney World offers a few various card box options.  This was a card box holder used at my 2006 Living Seas Wedding.  We wanted something subtle and to be honest, forgot about it until the last-minute.  So we rented this large glass vase and had them tie a ribbon around it in our colors.  We loved it.

Trends We Love: LED Bouquet

Thinking of doing something a little different for your Disney Wedding?  Trying to figure out how to add a little flair to your bouquet?  How about adding lights to it!?!

A recent Disneyland bride had Disney Floral create her bouquet with LED lights, which added a soft glow to the gorgeous flowers.  This is a great idea for an evening ceremony or for taking your bouquet to a dessert party.  If your ceremony is in the middle of the day you could place your bouquet in a vase on your sweetheart table at the reception and turn the lights on while the ambient lighting is low.  Or possibly talk to your floral provider about lighting your centerpieces!  I love this idea!!

Fairytale Themes: Cinderella

Our Disneymooner Member and Pixie, Katie, wanted to share her Cinderella Theme for her Disney Wedding:

I always knew that I was a princess. And I always knew that I would have my wedding at Disney. So of course, once I was engaged and everyone was on board with a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding, it was decided that the theme would be Cinderella, but not the character, the aspects of the story instead. We would focus on the slipper and the coach, and focus we did.

Even before our wedding even started, we had our theme in place at my bridal shower, we, of course, needed a coach cake

For the wedding, we started with our locations at Disney, The American Adventure Rotunda…there is no place that looks more like the castle ballroom in the world, no place else in the world that I could imagine floating across the floor dancing with my own prince charming, my new husband.

And of course, we needed to add Cinderella’s Coach… there was never any question there…

But it’s the little things that really make a theme…

We chose Cinderella coaches as our centerpieces and used them as ceremony decorations as well

And made little slippers on pillows to put in the middle instead of floral

We had the slipper sorbet

We tried to think of every little area that we could tie into the theme and in the end, I truly felt like Cinderella and I did marry my Prince Charming 😉 You can too! If you are a Disney Bride and would like to read my full recaps of my wedding day, join the Forums!
